Dear 5th graders,
I was visiting Arapahoe High School this morning as another classroom (9th graders this time) was using a blog to help them write about a book they read. As I walked out of the building, my phone beeped to tell me I had new email. Well, I always have new email, but this time when I checked I saw a long list of notices from my blog telling me someone had left a comment... I raced to my computer to read what you wrote to me. I was very excited! The things you wrote were not only very nice to read, but I thought your writing was of very high quality and you had very good ideas. I am very impressed with you and you make us all so proud.

Some of you asked some questions, so I'll try to answer. One question was whether other schools have the EeePCs. There are 4 other elementary schools working on the same project you are... Whitman, East, Field and Moody. I'd like to see ALL 5th grades have EeePCs like you do...

Also, you asked if I visit other schools and the answer is yes, I visit all the schools in Littleton. We have 26 schools and I try to visit each one at lest once per year.

Lastly, one persona asked if I can come back. Well, I like to go to a classroom during the first week of March to read a Dr. Suess book because his birthday is that week and I love his stories. If you would like me to come read that week, ask Mrs. Urbanek to send me an email.

Thanks again for welcoming into your classroom!

-Sincerely, Dan Maas

Hi Ms. Urbanek and Hopkins 5th graders,

I just had a chance to listen to Greg Mortensen, the author of Three Cups of Tea. He was a great speaker! He told the audience about the schools he has started, specifically in Afghanistan. Many girls have been allowed to attend his school. This is great news because oftentimes girls don't have permission to get an education.

A group of elementary school students helped to pay for the school and started a way to collect money. It is called "Pennies for Peace." If you want to, you should try to find out more about the organization and how it helps kids in other countries get an education.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Nichols

Dear 5th grade: I watched you read and think about monitor/clarify today. You were so engaged in your reading and I noticed how you were helping each other think about the story. Reading really is all about thinking. Thank you for letting me watch such great thinkers today! Mrs. Coulter

Hi. :)
My name is Lauren and I'm in 7th grade and I live in Alabama. I was wondering if maybe you could read this comment out to your class.

What I wanted to say is that when you guys and girls are all getting ready to go to sixth grade, don't be scared. Be prepared, but DO NOT be scared. Just do your work and be kind to people and you'll be OK. Take it from someone who knows, school can always be stressful, but if you let it get the best out of you, then it's a whole lot worse. So smile and look at 6th grade as something new, but don't hate it. :)
I hope this helped maybe even a little bit, and if it didn't then I'm really sorry. :(

Good luck to all of you,

-Lauren

(PS. If you want to comment back, my email address is crazydaydreamer97@gmail.com, however I would suggest you have your teacher email me, and not individual students. I can't exactly say your parents would approve of that)
